Implementing the Consciousness-BasedSM Education Program in Public, Charter, and Private Schools
A scientifically proven program to develop total brain functioning for increasing intelligence, creativity, and happiness in students and teachers, and for improving educational outcomes in every school
The Problems in Education
Poor student achievement, fatigue, stress, apathy, alcohol and drug use, and school violence are widespread problems in education; yet experts have not been able to offer any promising new solutions to the problems facing our nation’s schools. Adopting more rigorous standards and testing, establishing more elaborate discipline and security measures, or organizing student discussions about their difficulties are superficial approaches. A real solution is needed to the problems in schools everywhere.
The Source of the Problems
The primary source of all problems in the schools is lack of knowledge of how to fully develop each student, lack of the knowledge of how to enliven total brain development, and thereby awaken the student’s latent inner intelligence, creativity, and happiness, for increasing achievements and fulfilling success in life.
Education today, throughout the world, is information-based. It focuses on what is “known,” such as facts, events, and ideas, without the knowledge and technology to systematically unfold the creative intelligence of every student, the “knower.” Such an education, which presents knowledge of different disciplines without a technology for holistically developing the student’s consciousness, is necessarily a fragmented approach to education, which only partially develops the brain.
With such an educational system, the student, born with unlimited capacity of knowledge, power, and inner happiness, remains a partially developed person, struggling with limited achievements, stress, dissatisfaction, and frustration. This frustration, resulting from the limitations students experience in what they know and what they can do, can express itself in all kinds of antisocial behavior, even violence.
The Solution to Problems in Education:
Implement the Consciousness-Based education program
The solution to the problems in education is for schools everywhere to implement Consciousness-Based education—a scientifically proven program to enliven the total brain of each student, and thereby awaken the student’s total intelligence, creativity, and happiness. More than 40 years of experience, 600 research studies in 30 countries, and the educational outcomes of over 200 schools throughout the world, document the profound benefits of this non-sectarian program to improve educational outcomes, reduce stress and antisocial behavior, increase creativity and intelligence, and unfold the inner happiness of students and teachers of all cultural and educational backgrounds.
The Consciousness-Based education program, which includes the Transcendental Meditation® technique, enables any school to fulfill its responsibility to capably educate the youth of society. Through this program, students—wherever they are, whatever their background—will experience increasing success and satisfaction day by day.
As verified by decades of research and educational experience worldwide, the Transcendental Meditation technique strengthens the cognitive, physiological, and affective foundations of learning, while promoting more healthy life-style choices and positive behavior. At the same time, regular practice of this technique significantly reduces the stress and tension that many students and teachers experience daily; and when implemented fully within a school, the entire school atmosphere becomes harmonious, happy, safe, and conducive to learning. The Transcendental Meditation technique involves no change in lifestyle or belief. More than five million people around the world, of all cultures, religions, and backgrounds have learned the practice.
Develop ideal citizens As students unfold more and more of their creative potential, they cease to be frustrated and dissatisfied, and start living more possibilities in their lives. Their thoughts, feelings, speech, and behavior become more life-supporting for themselves and others; increasingly they exercise their creativity in whatever they do, enjoying increasing mastery with fewer problems. Increasingly they are able fulfill their own interests while upholding the interests of others, which is the basis of ideal citizenship.

Overview of the program
The Consciousness-Based education program is easily integrated into any public, charter, or private school setting, without making extensive changes to the existing curriculum or schedule. The program has the following features:
- Transcendental Meditation® program. Professionally trained instructors teach this technique to school faculty, then to the students, after which the faculty supervise the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique in class for 10 to 15 minutes twice daily.
- Natural Law curriculum (optional). In addition to the Transcendental Meditation technique, the Natural Law curriculum is taught at least once per week. In age-appropriate language this curriculum presents universal principles—natural laws—which the students find common to all academic subjects and to their own experience as their creative intelligence develops.
- Teacher preparation. If the Natural Law curriculum is taught, in-service programs are provided to prepare teachers to teach this curriculum.
The cost of the program
The cost to implement the Consciousness-Based education program is a one-time fee of $2,500 per student or teacher participant; plus, if the Natural Law curriculum is taught, an annual curriculum fee based upon the number of students enrolled in the school.
If the district/school is not able to provide the full financial resources to implement the program, foundation grants for schools, and low interest educational loans (with payments as low as $50 per month) for qualified students and parents, are available to implement the program.
