About CBEA

Description and purpose
The Consciousness-Based Education Association (CBEA) is a non-profit, educational organization that provides practical, scientifically validated programs to unfold the latent creative intelligence and inner happiness of every student and teacher.

These non-sectarian programs, founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, have been implemented for over 40 years in schools and universities worldwide, with students of all educational backgrounds, religions, and cultures. Consciousness-Based education programs make use of the Transcendental Meditation® technique, practiced for a few minutes twice daily, which naturally and effortlessly settles the mind to its most silent and wakeful state, Transcendental Consciousness. This silent field is the full potential of one’s intelligence, the unified field of natural law. At the same time the body gains profound rest, which eliminates accumulated stress and fatigue.

Consciousness-Based education provides both experience and understanding of the unified field of natural law as the common basis of objective and subjective knowledge. Through understanding and regularly experiencing this field, students feel increasingly at home with different areas of study, appreciating the connections between the disciplines and themselves as their creative potential blossoms. As a result learning becomes increasingly relevant, integrated, and fulfilling.

More than 600 scientific research studies, conducted at over 200 universities and research institutes in 30 countries, establish the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation technique for developing mental abilities and greater use of brain potential, improving health and health habits, reducing antisocial behavior, and creating a harmonious school environment.

The goal of the Consciousness-Based Education Association is to provide the knowledge and technology to make education everywhere in America capable of creating exemplary citizens—individuals with the organizing power, wisdom, and self-sufficiency to achieve their desires while simultaneously promoting the well-being of society.

This Association offers the scientifically validated Consciousness-BasedSM education program, founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. More than 40 years of experience and over 600 scientific research studies have shown this non-sectarian program to improve educational outcomes, reduce stress and antisocial behavior, increase creativity and intelligence, and unfold the inner happiness of students and teachers of all cultural and educational backgrounds.

Support services for schools, school developers, and after-school organizations
CBEA offers distinct support services to provide Consciousness-Based education programs for (1) existing schools, (2) new schools, and (3) after-school educational programs.

1) Support services for existing schools. The Consciousness-Based education program is easily integrated into any existing public or private school without making extensive changes to the existing curriculum or schedule. The program has three primary components:

  1. Transcendental Meditation program. Professionally trained instructors teach this technique to the school faculty, then to the students, after which the faculty supervise the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique in class for 10 to 15 minutes twice daily.
  2. Natural Law curriculum. In addition to the Transcendental Meditation technique, the Natural Law curriculum is taught at least once per week. In age-appropriate language it presents universal principles—natural laws—which the students find common to all academic subjects and to their own experience as their creative intelligence develops.
  3. Teacher preparation. In-service programs are provided to prepare teachers to teach this curriculum.
